Where to stay near the Brandenburg Gate
The Gate stands on Pariser Platz in the district of Mitte. Most visitors look at two areas: Mitte, with the Gate, the square and the boulevard Unter den Linden, and the Tiergarten, the park and government quarter west of the Gate. This guide is independent. It names no hotels, gives no price ranges and does not rank properties.
The district name alone says little about distance. Work out how far a room is from the sights by its exact address, then look at the nearest station. Brandenburger Tor station is the useful one, and the sights in this guide lie within reach of it.

Mitte or Tiergarten
What each area gives you, based on the map and the sights nearby.
| Mitte | Tiergarten | |
|---|---|---|
| Where | The Gate, Pariser Platz and Unter den Linden | The park and government quarter west of the Gate |
| Nearby | Humboldt University, the State Opera, the Neue Wache and the Zeughaus along the boulevard | The Reichstag, the Gate and the road to the Victory Column |
| Good for | Walking to the Gate, the boulevard and Museum Island | Green space, the Victory Column and the Soviet War Memorial |
| Check | Building work on Unter den Linden | The exact address and distance to the station |
The map shows the Tiergarten, the Reichstag, the Gate and Unter den Linden side by side. That does not tell you whether a room there is quiet or cheap.

Staying in Mitte
The Gate, the square and the boulevard.
Mitte is the area around the Gate. Unter den Linden runs for about 1.5 km from the Gate and Pariser Platz toward the Schlossbrücke, with the cultural buildings along it. Pariser Platz itself has the embassies of the United States and France and the Akademie der Künste.
Building work is the main thing to check here. A rebuild of Unter den Linden is planned in phases. A press report of 9 August 2026 expects the work to begin around the end of 2026 and to run in sections until autumn 2029. That is a plan. If you book on the boulevard, ask the hotel about works near the building.
The Gate itself has works this autumn. The operator announced that site setup began on 20 October 2026, and the night lighting is off from 26 October until about the start of December. The outer passages are closed during the works.
Staying near the Tiergarten
West of the Gate lies the Großer Tiergarten, and Straße des 17. Juni leads from the Gate toward the Großer Stern with the Victory Column. A stay there puts the park on your doorstep. The Soviet War Memorial stands on the same street.
The park has rules for visitors: no grilling except at marked areas, swimming only at designated spots and no e-scooters. Read more on the Tiergarten page.

City Tax and extra costs
What is added to the room price.
City Tax: 7.5 percent
The tax is 7.5 percent of the net accommodation price since 1 January 2025. Extras such as breakfast are not part of the base. The accommodation provider owes the tax to the city, and business stays are included.
Older advice is out of date
The old exemption for stays of more than 21 days was dropped from 1 January 2025. Guides that mention the earlier rate or that exemption are outdated. Changes in 2026 mostly concern how businesses account for the tax.
Parking
There are no parking spaces at the Gate. A paid garage on Behrenstraße is named as an option, with no fee listed. Ask your hotel about parking before you drive in.
Getting around from your room
Fares and passes in 2026.
| Ticket | Zones A and B | Zones A, B and C |
|---|---|---|
| Single ticket (120 minutes, one direction) | €4.00 | €5.00 |
| Short trip | €2.80 | – |
| 24-hour ticket | €11.20 | €12.90 |
| Four-trip ticket | €12.40 | – |
| WelcomeCard, 72 hours | €39.50 | €45.50 |
Reduced single tickets cost €2.50 for zones A and B and €3.50 for A, B and C, for children aged 6 to 14. Zone C includes the surroundings, the airport BER and Potsdam. The WelcomeCard bundles transport with discounts. It does not give free entry to every sight, and the free sights near the Gate give you nothing to save. Compare it with the trips you really plan.
Hauptbahnhof is about 3 minutes from the Gate by U5, and the Bundestag stop is about 1 minute from the Gate station. These are ride times, without waiting and walking.
Before you book
A short checklist.
The exact address
Look at the street, not the district. Measure the walk to the nearest station and to the sights you want.
The date
Check the building works on Unter den Linden and the closures near the Gate for your dates.
New Year's Eve at the Gate →The total price
Add the City Tax to the net room price, and check what breakfast and parking cost.
