The Tiergarten at a glance
The Großer Tiergarten lies west of the Brandenburg Gate. Straße des 17. Juni leads from the Gate toward the Großer Stern, the big roundabout with the Victory Column in the middle. The park is open green space, and the best-known stops are the column and the Soviet War Memorial on Straße des 17. Juni.
Most visitors combine the park with the Gate, the Reichstag and the memorial to the murdered Jews of Europe, which all lie close together. This guide is independent. It is not run by the city, the park authority or the operator of the Victory Column. Prices are in euros as listed in 2026 and can change.

Starting at the Gate: what to expect in autumn 2026
Building work affects the start of the walk.
Work at the Gate
The operator announced on 18 October 2026 that site setup began on 20 October. The usual night lighting is off from 26 October until about the start of December. The outer passages are closed during the works, and the middle one stays usable. This is a plan, not a guarantee for every day.
History of the Gate →The station is not the Gate
Brandenburger Tor station sits close by, but it is a separate building. The S-Bahn lines are S1, S2, S25 and S26, and the U-Bahn line is U5. The station is in fare zone A.
Pariser Platz →Parking
There are no parking spaces at the Gate. A paid garage on Behrenstraße is named as an option. Fees and free spaces are not listed, so ask before you drive.

Walking tours, bike tours and day trips that start in central Berlin, with live prices and availability.
The Victory Column (Siegessäule)
The column stands on the Großer Stern. You climb 285 steps to the platform, and there is no step-free access. If stairs are a problem, enjoy the column from the ground.
The ticket is listed at €4.50 for adults and €3.50 reduced. One 2026 listing gives €4 and €3, so expect a small difference at the desk. Children's prices, proof for reductions, card payment and the last climb are not listed.
Opening hours are listed with small differences. In summer the column opens at 9:30 and closes between 18:30 and 19:00. In winter it closes between 17:00 and 17:30, and some listings give an opening at 10:00. It is closed on 24 December. Arrive early in winter and check the posted hours at the column.
You reach the middle of the Großer Stern through a pedestrian tunnel. Do not cross the roundabout on foot.

Park rules in the Tiergarten
The rules for Berlin's green spaces apply here.
Walking and cycling
Use the lawns with care, and pedestrians have priority. Cycling is allowed only on paths and areas that are open to it. E-scooters count as motor vehicles and are generally not allowed in green spaces.
Bike tours →Fire and swimming
Grilling and open fires are generally banned. Only marked grill areas are exempt. Swimming is allowed only at designated bathing spots. Do not assume that the ponds in the park are bathing places.
Wild animals
Do not feed wild animals. Stay calm, keep your distance and leave them a way to retreat. If you meet a wild boar sow with piglets, take a wide detour. There is no official distance in metres, so use judgement.
The Soviet War Memorial
A place of remembrance on Straße des 17. Juni.
The memorial was inaugurated on 11 November 1945. It shows a soldier figure with guns and T-34 tanks. According to the state monument office, the graves of 2,500 Soviet soldiers lie in the area behind it. Treat it as a cemetery and a memorial: keep your voice low and do not climb on the structures.
The memorial lies on Straße des 17. Juni. From the Gate, follow that street westward into the park.
