New Year's Eve at the Gate: what is known
Berlin's big public New Year's Eve party is held at the Brandenburg Gate. For the turn of 2026/27, the Berliner Kurier reported on 16 September 2026, citing the Senate Chancellery, that there will again be a free celebration with DJs and fireworks. That is a report of a plan, not a set of rules.
The organizer's event rules for 2026/27 were not out in October 2026. So the entrance, the start and end times, the ticket question and the list of banned items are open. Read anything about "this year's" rules with care until the organizer publishes them. This guide is independent and is not the organizer.

How the previous year worked (2025/26)
This is last year's format. Do not copy its rules to 2026/27.
The name
The party for the turn of 2025/26 ran at the Brandenburg Gate under the title Yeah 2026.
Free tickets
In 2025 the Senate Chancellery announced that Berlin would welcome 2026 with free tickets for about 20,000 guests. That number and the ticket rule belong to 2025/26.
The event rules
The organizer published its event rules for that party on 28 November 2025. They cover the turn of 2025/26 only. Use them as an example of what such rules contain, not as a guide to this year.
Berlin tours around the turn of the year
Walking tours, bike tours and day trips in central Berlin, with live prices and availability.
What to check in the event rules
Once the organizer publishes them, read these points before you leave.
Entry and tickets
Check whether entry is free but needs a ticket, when the gates open and which entrances are used.
Bags and liquids
Check the bag size and the list of banned items, including bottles and drinks. Travel light if you can.
Fireworks
Check whether you may bring your own fireworks to the party area. Do not assume that you may.
Age and capacity
Check age rules and the capacity of the party area. A free event can still be full.
Transport plan
Check the notices of the S-Bahn and the BVG for special New Year's Eve service.
The Gate itself in winter 2026
Building work is under way.
The operator announced on 18 October 2026 that site setup began on 20 October. The usual night lighting is off from 26 October until about the start of December, and the outer passages are closed during the works. The middle passage stays usable. The old lighting from 2002 is being replaced by LED lights.
The lights are due back before the end of the year, but that is a plan. Free passage during a large event is not guaranteed, so follow the signs and the staff on the evening.
Getting there
Public transport is the practical way.
Station
Brandenburger Tor station has the S1, S2, S25 and S26 and the U5. It lies in fare zone A. From Hauptbahnhof on the U5 the ride takes about 3 minutes, and from the Gate to the Bundestag stop it takes about 1 minute.
Tickets 2026
A single ticket for zones A and B costs €4.00 and is valid for 120 minutes in one direction. A 24-hour ticket for A and B costs €11.20. A four-trip ticket costs €12.40.
Berlin sightseeing passes →Parking
There are no parking spaces at the Gate. A paid garage on Behrenstraße is named as an option, with no fee listed. Come by train.

Dress for the cold
The monthly normals for Berlin-Tempelhof give an average of 2.3 °C in December and 1.2 °C in January. These are monthly averages for the day and night together, so the night of 31 December can be colder than that. December has about 42 mm of precipitation on average.
You will stand outside for hours. Dress in layers, wear warm shoes and bring gloves. Eat before you arrive and think about how you will get home after midnight.
