Museum Island in 2026

The state museums of Berlin sit together on the island, and the walk from the Gate leads along Unter den Linden.

This guide is independent. It is not run by the Berlin State Museums or by any museum, and prices are in euros as listed in 2026. Hours and prices change, so confirm them before you go.

The big news is the Pergamon Museum. It is closed. The north wing and the central building are announced to reopen on 4 June 2027. The main hall with the Pergamon Altar belongs to that partial opening. Do not plan on the whole building being open then.

For a visit in 2026, the Neues Museum is the house with clear published details. Other houses on the island have their own hours and prices, so look them up before you set out.

The one house with full details.

Hours

Regular hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00. The museum is closed on Mondays. A closure from 15 to 17 March 2027 is announced for maintenance.

Entrance

The entrance is through the James-Simon-Galerie on Bodestraße. The nearest underground station is Museumsinsel.

The Museum Pass

Three days, many museums, but check the rules.

The Museum Pass is valid for 3 consecutive calendar days and covers more than 30 museums. It mostly covers permanent exhibitions. Special exhibitions can cost extra.

It is a digital pass with a fixed start date. You can buy it up to 4 weeks ahead, and it cannot be cancelled or rebooked. The pass is advertised as having no time slots, but some museums may still ask for one. Check the museum you want before the day, and do not assume that every door opens without a booking.

Children and young people under 18 enter state museums free. Others get a general reduction of 50 percent with proof. That includes pupils, trainees, students, volunteers in a voluntary service, people receiving unemployment benefit (ALG I) and people with a disability rating of 50 or more. Special exhibitions may have their own terms.

Which ticket fits your visit

A simple way to choose.

One house, one visit

If you want only the Neues Museum, the single ticket at €14 is the simple choice. Reduced is €7 with proof.

Several houses in a day

The Museumsinsel ticket at €24 is made for the island. Look at the list of included houses first, because the Pergamon Museum is closed.

Several days of museums

The Museum Pass at €32 runs for 3 calendar days and covers more than 30 museums. It pays off only if you will visit several of them, and it cannot be refunded.

Walking from the Gate to Museum Island

Along Unter den Linden.

Unter den Linden runs for about 1.5 km from the Gate and Pariser Platz toward the Schlossbrücke. On the way you pass Humboldt University, the State Opera, the Neue Wache and the Zeughaus. Museum Island lies at the end of that walk.

A rebuild of the boulevard is planned. A press report from 9 August 2026 expects the work to begin around the end of 2026, in sections until autumn 2029. That is a plan, so expect some building sites on the walk.

Prefer the train? Brandenburger Tor station has the S1, S2, S25, S26 and the U5. A single ticket for zones A and B costs €4.00 in 2026 and is valid for 120 minutes in one direction.
