What Checkpoint Charlie was
Checkpoint Charlie was a Western Allied checkpoint at Friedrichstraße and Zimmerstraße. The GDR border crossing and the Western Allied checkpoint were historically different parts of the same place of remembrance, and the two are often treated as one.
Today the site is a busy corner of the city with a museum, an outdoor exhibition and several plans for its future. Prices and opening hours below are those published for 2026. This website is independent and is not connected with the museum or with any public body.

A walking tour from the gate
One public tour starts at the Brandenburg Gate and ends at Checkpoint Charlie. It lasts about 2 hours on average and is listed in English and Spanish. The BlackBox is closed
Old listings still show it.
The BlackBox Cold War exhibition has been closed since the evening of 10 January 2026. Prices and hours that you may still find in older listings are not a current offer. Do not plan a visit around them.
The future of the site
Plans, not a finished square.
A competition for an education and remembrance site at Checkpoint Charlie ran in 2026. The jury decided on 9 September 2026, and an exhibition of the results ran from 13 to 23 October 2026 at the Neues Stadthaus. A competition design is not a finished square. A press report of 18 October 2026 names 2030 as the planned start of construction. That is a plan, not a completion date.
For now, expect the corner as it is: the museum, the outdoor exhibition and the busy street.
